Kar-Do-Jitsu Ryu Karate
American Judo and Karate
In 1970 a satellite program was developed at the Methodist Hospital in Park Slope Brooklyn. The program was a free Martial Arts program for the youth in the community. The program was a great success. In 1973 the hospital had cleared the program from its plate due to budget cuts. The free students had nowhere to train at this time and John wanted to keep this program on track, it kept youth off the street and out of harms way. Later that year John opened up a school of his own so the students would have place to go and new students could join. It was called American Judo and Karate and was located in Sunset Park Brooklyn, on 46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. From 1973 to 1977 Kar-Do-Jitsu Ryu was molded and perfected, in 1977 the system was established and recognized in Japan.
Founder: Shidoshi John F. Manniel III
Was one of the first mixed martial arts created,
this is an American System.
I was born in New Jersey and at the age of 2, my family moved to Sunset Park, Brooklyn. At an early age I began my journey as a Martial Artist under the tutelage of Shidoshi John Manniel. I received my black belt about the age of 18 and I have been both assisting and instructing my own class for about 15 to 20 years. I am currently one of the Chief Instructors at the KDJR Hombu Dojo. Shidoshi Manniel instilled traits and philosophies in me which I have been able to use in my everyday life, such as perseverance in my career, faith and respect in my relationships, and honor and loyalty for my friends and family. Throughout my teaching experience, I have had the honor of training with family members, several friends and outstanding instructors. I currently have the pleasure of training my daughter and son, I hope to some day see my children running their own Dojo and following the ways of Shidoshi John F. Manniel.
