American Judo and Karate
In 1970 a satellite program was developed at the Methodist Hospital in Park Slope Brooklyn. The program was a free Martial Arts program for the youth in the community. The program was a great success. In 1973 the hospital had cleared the program from its plate due to budget cuts. The free students had nowhere to train at this time and John wanted to keep this program on track, it kept youth off the street and out of harms way. Later that year John opened up a school of his own so the students would have place to go and new students could join. It was called American Judo and Karate and was located in Sunset Park Brooklyn, on 46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. From 1973 to 1977 Kar-Do-Jitsu Ryu was molded and perfected, in 1977 the system was established and recognized in Japan.
